Is your work day causing your headaches

Roger Walker September 23, 2019 Reviews Comments are off

Headaches are one of the most common causes of employees needing to take some form of painkiller during or after their work day. There are a number of reasons that could cause your headaches and if they are persistent it is always worth getting them checked out by a medical professional. However, your work environment, work day format and the way that you sit at your desk could all be contributing to the likelihood of your headaches developing. Here are some of the ways that your work day could be causing your headaches.

  1. Skipping breakfast – we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is important not only to get our metabolism going in the morning but also helps to regulate our blood sugar levels and also keeps our bodies fuelled correctly. But did you know that skipping this meal can also contribute to the appearance of migraines. This is due to the fact that it places your body in a state of stress as is tries to run on empty.
  1. Sitting – if you sit for prolonged periods of time and do not have your Operator Chairs, such as the ones you can purchase from https://www.bestbuy-officechairs.co.uk/office-chairs/operator-chairs/ aligned to your desk correctly you can cause tension headaches to appear. If your posture when sitting is not correct and you do not get up and stretch at least every hour you can find that tension is created in the muscles of your lower back and neck. It is tension in these areas that can trigger a tension headache later on in the day.

  1. Lack of fresh air – recycled air can actually deplete the amount of oxygen that is available for your brain to function fully and to protest you will find that a headache is inevitable. The phenomenon of “sick building syndrome” covers this unhealthy aspect of a work environment. Fresh air flow into a building is incredibly important to help reduce the toxic particles and bacteria levels that fly around in the air that inevitably we all end up breathing in and in turn will make us ill. The best way to combat this is to ensure that there is a supply of fresh air constantly in your environment.
  1. Working hours – if your regularly exceed more than 10 hours a day at a computer you will find that you are more likely to suffer from headaches. This is because it puts more pressure on your cardiovascular systems and ultimately your heart sitting for long periods of time.
