When is the best time to buy a high-end jumper?

When it comes to knitwear, quality is often preferable to quantity; however, it can be difficult to know when to splash out on that statement jumper that will last for years.

A durable yet stylish jumper is an essential part of any woman’s wardrobe. While you can pick up trendy items in any high-street store, you may want to invest in a more luxurious item to see you through this winter season and many more to come.

The Daily Mail reported back in 2013 that designer jumpers were becoming as much of a status symbol as handbags and shoes, which still holds true today.

If you are spending a significant amount on a jumper, you need to know what to look out for. It can be tempting to wait for the January sales to try to pick up a discounted high-end jumper, but you may end up buying on impulse and regretting it later. It is often better to start looking around the shops at the start of the autumn so that you can find one you really like.

The best materials

Natural fibres are less prone to pilling than synthetic fibres and are usually used in high-end jumpers. Wool is best, and the softer the better. Merino wool is amongst the softest and has the most luxurious feel, which is why it is often used in womens Irish sweaters from stores such as shoparan.com. Durable but amazingly soft to wear, it is also moisture-wicking. This means that water runs off the surface and will keep you dry.

Cashmere is even softer than merino. It isn’t as durable, but most high-end jumpers are made of cashmere. Cashmere wool is expensive to buy, which is reflected in the jumper’s price tag.

Cashmere jumpers can now be found in department stores; however, they won’t be as well made as those found in designer stores. ‘Cheap’ cashmere won’t last and the fit won’t be as good, so it may be better to go for an alternative such as Merino, Shetland or lambswool.
