Confirm Your Chassis Generation
The A4 steering rack was used on two generations of the A4 model, the B6 (2000-2004) and the B7 (2004-2008). During these years, several versions of the steering rack were produced. We check the B-series code to guarantee the correct rack for your model. The B-series code can be found on the V5C and on the plate in the driver’s door jamb.
Check for a Speed Sensor Port
Note that some Steering Racks have a speed sensor port and others do not. If the incorrect sensor type is fitted to the Power Steering Control Unit (PSCU) then problems can occur. Verify the Steering Assistance Type
The early B6 models and early B7 models run with Hydraulic power assistance. From a certain point onwards the B7 models are fitted with Electro-hydraulic power assistance. Audi uses different types of steering racks for these types of power assistance.
Check Tie-Rod Thread Specification
Tie rod ends must fit on the end of the replacement steering rack. Ensure that you measure the thread of the steering rack and also the Tie rod end. This will ensure the correct tie rod ends are purchased and that they will fit correctly on to the replacement steering rack.
Confirm Drive-Side Configuration
UK Right Hand Drive (RHD) models of the Audi A4 need an Audi A4 Steering Rack (RHD) to match your vehicle, if your car was imported ensure the steering rack was fitted to the vehicle before it was exported, refer to the MOT and Technical history of the vehicle for recorded vehicle details and previous steering advisories.
