Knowing the Signs to Look for to Replace Your Bathroom Sealant

Jessica Hanshaw October 26, 2025 Home Improvement Comments are off

Bathroom sealant might not be one of the main features of your home, but this is a humble yet vital part of keeping your home watertight and hygienic. Over time, bathroom sealant starts to deteriorate as it is exposed to so much moisture and when this happens it can lead to big problems.

Being aware of when to replace your sealant is important if you want to avoid big issues like structural damage and mould further down the line, not to mention the costly repair bills that can come with this!

Good quality bathroom sealant like this www.ct1.com/product_application/sealing-your-shower-tray-with-bt1-bathroom-sealant is something that you can get online and from DIY shops. Here are some of the signs to look out for that indicate it might be time to refresh your bathroom sealant…

Cracks and Gaps

If you notice that your sealant is cracked and peeling, and you see gaps in it, then water can easily get through, which can cause damage to walls and other things that it comes into contact with.

Stains and Discolouration

Sealant naturally discolours over time, especially in areas exposed to water and cleaning chemicals. If it’s yellowed, grey, or has dark mould stains that don’t come off with cleaning, it’s a clear sign that it’s time for a replacement. Mould-resistant sealants are now widely available and help keep your bathroom looking fresh for longer.

Water Leaks or Damp Smells

A musty odour or signs of damp around your bath, shower, or sink often point to sealant failure. Acting quickly can prevent more extensive damage to walls and floors.

Regularly inspecting and replacing your bathroom sealant is a simple yet effective way to maintain a clean, dry, and long-lasting bathroom.
