The Top Uses of Wood in Landscape Designs

Looking for natural materials that can add structure to your landscape projects or provide a framework? Consider wood. Wood is an environmentally friendly material that has a low carbon footprint. Timber is a great choice for hardscape design, whether you are restoring an old garden or creating a brand new one. It adds warmth and beauty to the area, as well as endless possibilities. Here are a few favourite wood-based landscape features:

  1. Edging and Borders – define a garden or mark a pathway or walkway using wood timbers so that the plants, trees, and flowers will stand out without competing with the border materials. Consider a vertical layout or stack the wood timbers horizontally for raised beds to avoid erosion. Connectors made of stainless steel can be used to align pieces, particularly for angles.
  2. Retaining wall – A wood retaining wall can be a great way to blend into the environment, especially if it is a focal wall or occupies a significant part of a smaller space. When you require timber, consider a Timber Merchants Portsmouth. Visit a Timber Merchants Portsmouth like Timbco.
  3. Steps – For steep or graded spaces, you can add wooden steps to the landscape as a way of making the climb uphill easier and graded.

  1. Decking – Timber is the most popular decking material used. There’s nothing better than natural wood on bare feet when you’re spending summer outdoors.
  2. Pergolas or Gazebos – a covered area, such as a pergola, can provide respite on hot days, or even rainy ones. It also provides a focal point or anchor for a design of your choice.
  3. Design play structures that are both beautiful and fun for your children. Not just any wood. For peace of mind, choose wood that is not treated with toxic chemicals so it’s safe for youngsters.

  1. Bridges: Water features enhance the design of the landscape and provide tranquillity for the user. A wooden bridge can be a great finishing touch to a beautiful outdoor space.
  2. Planters: Wooden planters, from window boxes to free-standing versions, are perfect for areas with limited space or as a design element to emphasise trees and plants.

Recently published articles state that wood furniture is the best option for outdoor use because it is long-lasting as well as able to withstand different weather conditions. So, why not make your own with timber?
