Celebrities living with OCD

Roger Walker July 26, 2022 Entertainment Comments are off

A person with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is someone who experiences unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, sensations, idealism or behaviours that cause them to feel as if they have to do something, and they feel compelled to do so. OCD is an anxiety disorder. It is important that, where possible, managers should attend Mental Health Training Courses like the ones from https://www.tidaltraining.co.uk/mental-health-courses/ to help provide them with more information on the condition and the ways in which they can help employees diagnosed with OCD.

There are a number of celebrities who have been open about OCD or obsessive-compulsive tendencies that they may have.

Cameron Diaz

Her phobia of germs caused her to clean the doorknobs in her house so many times that the paint on them faded. Despite this phobia, she says she has made peace with it and has moved on.

 Leonardo DiCaprio

The actor Leonardo DiCaprio used to obsess over sidewalks as a child, going back over the same walking routes often to step over cracks or gum stains that he had previously walked over. The actor maintains that despite his compulsive tendencies, he does not suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In the movie Aviator, DiCaprio admits that he allowed his compulsive tendencies to worsen in order to be able to play the role of Howard Hughes, a sufferer of OCD.

Howie Mandel

It is because of a fear of germs and dirt that Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel will not shake hands with people. His “fist bump” is a well-known method he uses to compensate for this. Here’s the Deal: Don’t Touch Me, the 2009 book that Mandel wrote, details his struggles with both attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
