Throughout history humans have developed new ways of building homes and other buildings and along with this has come the use of new building materials. Builders Bristol way as well as those across the rest of the country will use a variety of materials depending on what the building project is. There have been a number of materials that have been used over time and here are just a few of them.

Stone – this has been a popular building material for many years and it was used in ancient times to build items such as pyramids, castles and temples. It was used as it is a sturdy building material and it is relatively easy to transport and to work with. In some cases, such as Petra in Jordan, entire cities were made using stone.

Wood – this material has been used in construction for thousands of years and tends to be used to build domestic dwellings and homes. In places where there is an abundance of wood, there are lots of buildings that are created using the wood that is found locally. In some cases countries rely heavily on the export of wood for use in the worldwide construction industry.

Mud – whilst we don’t use mud today as a building material for our homes and businesses, it is a material that is still used in other parts of the world. It is often mixed together with straw and other organic materials to help increase the strength of the resulting mixture.
