How to Start Bouldering Worcester Sessions
It helps to know a bit about what you can expect to do at your first few sessions of bouldering so here is a simple guide.
Book a Taster and Check the Grades
Many climbing walls offer a taster session for new beginners, so it’s best to book a space on one of these before attending. Also make sure to find out what grading system the climbing wall uses (some climbing walls use colours and others use numbers) so that you can recognise the gradings on the wall.
Go Through the Induction Properly
The induction should go through how you fall and how the floors are padded. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask as the staff are used to answering the same ones time and time again. This will mean you can get started on the wall a lot quicker.
Start Easy and Focus on Feet
Start with the easiest problem and try to climb it. Focus on placing your feet as accurately as possible – this is the key to climbing as opposed to pulling yourself up by your arms until you’re exhausted.
Rest Properly Between Visits
Your fingers and your forearms will get very sore. Try to space your sessions out over 2 to 3 days. This will allow your muscles to recover between your exercise sessions.
Keep a Simple Progress Log
After each visit record the problems you completed and those that you attempted to complete. A simple list on your phone is fine. Seeing your grades increase over the course of a few weeks will be a great motivator when you are having a tough session.
Preparing for your first bouldering session at Bouldering Worcester a little beforehand will make the experience so much better and will aid your progress to climbing as soon as possible.
