Why Solar Panel Ownership Is More Like Farming Than Shopping — Input, Yield and Season

Solar panel ownership is more like farming than shopping for goods. In farming, one has to invest in land, seed, water, and labour to produce the yield of crops. Similarly, to own solar panels, one has to invest in purchasing the panels, installing them on the rooftop, and ensuring they receive sufficient sunlight throughout the year. The yield from these investments is the electricity that is produced by the solar panels. Like farming, solar panels are seasonal in their production as they require sunlight to produce electricity and their production is limited to the daylight hours.

Shopping is a transactional activity. You find something that you want to purchase, you pay for it, and you have the product in your possession. There is no requirement for further engagement with the product; its existence does not change seasonally, nor will it teach you any knowledge about the natural world unless you specifically intend to learn such a lesson from it.

Farming is different. The farmer invests in planting a crop, and the return of that investment is based upon factors that are outside of the farmer’s control. The farmer works with a natural system to produce the crops. The relationship between the input into the land and the output is based upon factors like the weather, the time of year, and the farmer’s knowledge of the land.

Solar panel ownership is a type of ownership that falls into the farming category. For Solar Panels Bournemouth, visit https://solarpanelsdorset.co.uk/solar-panels/bournemouth

The solar panels are installed. However, the power that is generated from those panels is dependent upon the amount of sunlight that falls upon those panels during the year, as well as the angle at which the sunlight falls upon them. The weather throughout the year will also impact the amount of power that is produced by the solar panels, as will the specific microclimate of the location where those panels are installed.

The solar owner who pays attention to their system is farming.
