Burglars usually don’t plan things in detail and most of the time, they’re just looking for easy pickings. If they see an unlocked door, an open window or a weak lock, they may be tempted to try their luck. Even something valuable that is visible through a window can make a house more tempting.

What They Notice First

A lot of burglars are scanning for signs that a home has good stuff inside. Leaving empty boxes from new TVs, phones, or other expensive items outside can accidentally show that there could be expensive things inside. They also tend to pick out easy entry points, like old doors or windows that don’t look secure.

Burglars often learn routines. They may notice when people leave for work, school runs or holidays, and if a house looks empty regularly, it can become a target. That’s why making your home look lived-in can help put them off.
