Getting your tumble dryer ready

Roger Walker July 30, 2024 Home Improvement Comments are off

The tumble dryer is great for those who want their clothes to be ready in no time. Tumble dryers make our lives easier by allowing us to avoid hanging the clothes up on the radiator or washing line. It’s not rocket science to use a tumble-dryer but there are some tips on how to get the best out of a dryer.

Prepare your tumble dryer for use

The two main by-products from tumble drying are water and lint. For the tumble dryer to function properly, both of these must be removed.

You may have to empty your condenser before every cycle if you use a condenser dryer. If the dryer does not have an automatic draining hose, you will need to empty the drawer before each cycle. The dryer will not remove water from clothes if the drawer is full.

Before you begin drying, it’s important to remove the filter. It will take the dryer longer to dry clothes if it is blocked. For information on Integrated Tumble Dryers, contact wellingtonshomeelectrical.co.uk/laundry/tumble-dryers/integrated

The lint filters are usually found inside the flap that covers the door or near the controls on top. The filter can be inside or on the top of the dryer for top loading tumble dryers.

What can I put in the tumbler?

Firstly, let’s send out a warning: you should never put any oil in your tumble dryer. This includes essential oils. The heat from a tumble dryer can cause an explosion and ignite oils.

Check all of your clothing for tumble dryer symbols. The symbol with an X means that it is not suitable for tumble-drying. The symbol with one dot means low, the two dots mean medium and three dots indicate high.

You can determine whether an item can tumble dry by looking at the fabric. The following materials should not be tumble-dried :

  • Faux leather and other materials
  • Latex and rubber foam
  • Waterproof
  • Silk
  • Wools
  • Suede
  • Nylon tights
  • Clothes containing metallic components
  • Clothes sealed with PVC
  • Fur and faux fur
