Understanding the Benefits of Talk Therapy

Talk therapy is a recognised clinical, psychological intervention. It is appropriate for children and adults who suffer from mental health issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and many more.

NHS talking therapies are evidence-based and vary in duration and intensity in accordance with the intended outcome. Anyone delivering these therapies is appropriately trained and qualified and practises with clinical supervision

Talk therapies include cognitive-behavioural therapy, humanistic therapy and psychoanalysis. Around 75% of people undergoing a talk therapy intervention have found it to be beneficial.

Benefits

Talk therapy allows you to have an open and honest dialogue with a professional about issues that are causing you distress. They will listen, help you to reframe your thoughts and make you aware of patterns in emotions and feelings.

It creates a safe space for you to share thoughts and feelings that you may not usually vocalise. It is like having a journal where you document your thoughts and feelings, with the added benefit of a professional to guide you along the way.

Over time, it can help you gain more effective communication skills, a better sense of confidence and self-worth, and access to coping strategies.

Talk therapy is especially useful for those going through grief, with research suggesting that a talk therapy intervention helps prevent the onset of more serious mental health issues further along the grieving process.

Mental Health Training

For those working in front-line positions with adults or children who are looking to expand their mental health knowledge and skills base, there is a wealth of training options available. There are many different specialist subject areas, such as mental health awareness, self-harm and suicide awareness, and psychological first-aid training.

Training can be completed in person, online or via hybrid learning. For information on mental health training courses Milton Keynes, visit a specialist training provider such as www.tidaltraining.co.uk/mental-health-training-courses/milton-keynes.

Upskilling in key areas of mental health allows practitioners to increase their awareness and understanding, ensuring better quality of care for those in need whilst removing the stigma associated with mental health issues.
