Lunch foods to avoid

Jessica Hanshaw September 26, 2024 Food and Drink Leave a Comment

It can be hard to fit in a proper lunch – or a healthy and nutritious one, at least – when you are working. Whether you are in the office or working from home, it is far too easy to shove random food items into a lunchbox, grab something sugary from the nearest shop, or snatch the closest thing in the fridge. This can stop the hunger pangs in the short term, but the following lunch options can either leave you feeling hungry again in an hour or two or add way more calories, sugar, or fat into your daily diet.

Juices

Office lunches are often eaten at the desk, so ease is frequently a priority. You might think that grabbing a juice is a quick, convenient, and mess-free option, but this is often not a sensible choice. The problem is that whilst offering some nutritional value, most juices contain lots of sugar. There are many health reasons to avoid sugar, as explained by the NHS here:

Salads

Some salads can be great, but iceberg lettuce thrown into a tub with a bit of limp cucumber and half a bottle of sugary or fatty dressing isn’t going to cut it when it comes to a healthy and satisfying office lunch. A good office lunch should contain some protein, which will help keep you feeling fuller for longer. If you are in the market for office lunches visit Crumbs Delivered or another professional catering company for more substantial ideas that will keep you going for longer.

Mac & cheese

Mac & cheese is a typical leftover grabbed from the fridge for lunch the next day, but it is likely to lead to a mid-afternoon crash and set you on the road to a craving for carbs.

Burger and chips

Burger and chips is a typical takeaway offering and it is absolutely fine now and again – just not as a regular office lunch. These types of takeaway meals are incredibly high in fat and calories, making them more suited to occasional treats.
