How Can I Choose the Right Flooring for My Lifestyle?

Roger Walker January 17, 2018 Reviews Comments are off

Choosing the right type of flooring for your home is often dependant on you and your family’s lifestyle. If your floors encounter a lot of misuse from kids, pets or even chair legs scraping across the floor, then deciding whether to use hardwood or carpeting is essential to keeping your home in prime condition. The following are some ideas to keep in mind.

When You Want to Be Cosy in Your Bedroom

If you’re considering giving your bedroom a revamp, think about using a plush, soft carpet for premium comfort. However, if you already have engineered flooring, a beautiful silk and wool rug can still achieve the desired effect of a luxury retreat.

If You Have Rowdy Pets

There are plenty of ideas for pet-friendly flooring, but if you’re worried about pet hairs and playful animals ruining your flooring, consider using bamboo flooring or tiles which can be easily cleaned. If you do decide to use a carpet, choose one that is stain-resistant and go for a cut-pile one to prevent your pet’s nails snagging any loops.

For Energetic and Playful Children

You’ll need to go for something that is soft for kids to play on but is also hassle-free to clean, and fibred carpet such as polypropylene or nylon could be an ideal solution. Alternatively, opt for wall to wall carpet tiles, which can be designed in different sizes and patterns and can be replaced individually if necessary.

For a Stylish Look in High-Traffic Areas

One of the best things about having engineered flooring is that wood doesn’t mind a little ageing – it can even add more character to it. Although different wood types will have different cleaning specifications, generally you’ll get away with a quick sweep or vacuum and an occasional mop. If you’re not sure of cleaning stipulations, check with local suppliers such as https://www.woodfloorwarehouse.co.uk/engineered-flooring.html first.

When a Room Has a Lot of Mud and Dirt

Consider using easy-to-clean flooring which will catch the dirt but can be swept or vacuumed easily. Porcelain or ceramic tiles are ideal because of their durability and low maintenance for those areas that become dirty frequently.

If you’re thinking about new flooring, keep in mind how each room is used first, and this will ensure longevity for both comfort and practicalities.
